Please Read: A Letter From Fans Across America
Dear Fans and Friends:
Since the Fans Across America® Charitable Foundation launched in July of 2007, we have been blessed to help many families with seriously ill children. During this time, there have also been a variety of challenges (especially the economy) that have threatened to derail the Foundation and the work we are committed to doing. While many non-profits have fallen during these difficult times, the Fans Across America Charitable Foundation has continued keep moving, modifying course when necessary to help ensure assistance to families with seriously ill children.
Over the last year, we have taken time to review the families we have helped and the programs that have been most, and least, effective. There are also, unfortunately, too many families in this position, and as the Foundation was previously focused, there were too few resources to help as many families as we believe we can.
What we learned is that the families we have helped are often times barely hanging on, in need of some of life's basic necessities and a helping hand up, letting them know that they are not alone. We also found that people in the current economy were more able and willing to donate items, gift cards and services rather than making straight financial contributions.
As a result of this analysis and select pilot programs, we have altered course, which will open new doors and enable us to help even more families in need. Where our previous mission was "...to provide hope, opportunity and support to families with seriously ill children," we have revised and expanded our focus to be more tangible and meaningful in helping the families we serve while communicating our message to current and prospective supporters. Our revised mission statement and focus is as follows:
"The Fans Across America Charitable Foundation is a community of sports and entertainment fans delivering food, clothes and other living necessities to families with seriously ill and special needs children."
To more effectively deliver on our revised mission to serve these families, we have also created Assist-A-Family Packages. Designed to streamline the giving and distribution process, these packages can include: non-perishable food items and toiletries; new and gently used baby and children's clothes; new and gently used toys; furniture and other household items; gift cards (i.e. groceries, household products, gas); service certificates (i.e. auto service); assistance for other life expenses (i.e. utility bills); airline tickets / miles for families to travel to distant treatments. With our new focus on "food, clothes and other living necessities," we have also started to build relationships with like-minded organizations to leverage resources and help more families. Two of these partnerships include:
- Chandler Unified School District Families in Transition (FIT) Program and Chandler Hamilton High School Homeless Student Program
As we bring 2010 to a close and look forward to helping more families in 2011, I ask each of you to think about ways you can help Fans Across America fulfill its mission. Can you donate clothes, a gift card, or make a financial contribution? Are you able to organize a fundraising drive in your neighborhood, office, church, school or youth sports league to collect clothes, toys and other household items? Can you simply get a few friends to join Fans Across America? We need you, and most importantly, our families need you.
Remember, all contributions made through the Fans Across America Charitable Foundation to assist families are tax-deductible. To learn more about how you can help, click here.
God bless and thank you for your ongoing support!
