Partnership between FANS and INTEL pays dividends- Backpack Drive

San Tan Sun News:

Backpacks for homeless students needed

More than 400 fully-stocked backpacks will be given homeless students in the Chandler Unified School District as well as and Native American Student Programs, thanks to a partnership between Fans Across America Charitable Foundation and Intel.
Fans Across America Executive Director George Macedon says his 501(c)(3) nonprofit group will be receiving and sorting the packs for distribution next week with distribution set for the week of July 16.
"At any given day, there are more than 450 students within the CUSD that are classified as homeless and more than 225 families in transition that have children in school," Macedon explains. "This is the population we serve working directly with CUSD homeless liaisons."
In addition, Fans Across America, which provides daily living necessities for homeless students, homeless families in transition and families with seriously ill or special needs children, is also providing more than 100 stocked backpacks for the Tempe Children First Academy, and new socks and underwear will be given to all the youths through the various programs.
"Being an all-volunteer organization, however, we are always in need of volunteers and donated items to serve the less fortunate students and families within our community," Macedon adds.
